Jahazeil Myrie, son of international reggae star Buju Banton, is imploring students sitting the upcoming Caribbean Examinations Council’s (CXC) examinations to work themselves upwards to become stars. This, he says, will help to make them positive role models in society.

“I keep telling myself that I am a born star, but I will be working very hard to expose this stardom. So, students you have the opportunity to show – not only your teachers and parents ­– but the world that you can put out the full 100 in preparing for your examinations. This will show in your final results,” he said.

With the recent announcement that Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) examinations have been delayed for three weeks and CSEC and CAPE submission of school-based assessments (SBAs) another two weeks, Jahazeil advice is, “Students, spend some time on your weaker areas and fine-tune your SBAs with the help of teachers so you can get the best grades.”

Stakeholders across the region, including Jamaica’s Minister of Education Fayval Williams had indicated the need for the examinations to be delayed in order to give students more time, due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, which kept students out of classrooms for long periods. That request was granted.

There are over 100, 000 students sitting this year’s CSEC and CAPE examinations across the region. Some 103,445 students sat the exam in 2021 compared to 122, 248 in 2020.

Jahazeil’s latest project is Born Star, produced by Portmore-based Chico Don Production and will be released on May 6, 2022.

“The inspiration of this song came when I reflected on the academic prowess of some graduates over the years. And, with the coming of the CSEC and CAPE examinations, this song could boost them to study harder. I got the rhythm a week ago from the producer; I loved it because it has this dancehall vibes The flow goes with my style, which is not very high tempo. The production is good and this will give me more presence in the dancehall arena,” he said.

Jahazeil released his first song No More in 2015. His other songs include Best of Me, Love One, Hold On, and At My Door featuring Spragga Benz.
