Lamara Distin breaks national high jump record with new height of 1.97m
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Jamaica’s Lamara Distin marginally improved her national record in the high jump after she won the event at the Alumni Muster track meet at Texas A&M University at Bryan Stadium in College Station, Texas, clearing 1.97m.
Her new height beat the 1.96m she had set at the 94th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in March and extended her world lead and NCAA lead.
Distin, a student at Texas A&M University, also broke the meet record of 1.77m set in 2019 by Alexus Henry of the University of Texas-Arlington and the facility record of 1.95m set by Tyra Gittens then of Texas A&M University.
On Saturday, Distin passed the first five heights before clearing 1.86m and 1.90m on her first attempts and then needed a second attempt to clear 1.94m and 1.97m before failing at 2.00m.
