French producers, Khalia team up, again
Following the success of their 2021 collaboration No Better Day with Jamaican singer Khalia, French labels Dance Soldiah Records and Digital Cut have once again teamed up with the singer.
Last month, the Paris-based independent labels jointly released Nothing Can Justify.
“We were introduced to Khalia by producer Tony Kelly and our first collaboration with her No Better Day was released last year on the Sensei rhythm,” said Nicolas “Nico” Wetzel, a co-founder of Dance Soldiah, told the Jamaica Observer.
“What we like best about working with Khalia is her human side. She always sings and deals with conscious subjects, which is very important for us. She has a real talent with lyrics, flow and melodies,” he continued.
Dance Soldiah Records and Digital Cut have more than 20 years of respective experience in music production. Last year, the label produced the Kensei/Sensei rhythm which featured 20 acts, ten females and 10 males.
Nothing Can Justify is a banner against violence, against children and women. Khalia carries a message that goes beyond reggae and sheds light on this current reality while encouraging the victims to hold their heads high.
Both labels are keen on working with more Caribbean acts.
“There is a big Caribbean culture in Paris with people from (French West Indies islands) Guadeloupe and Martinique. Dancehall is played in sound systems, discotheques, concerts and festivals in Paris. There are many (dancehall) fans in France,” Nico disclosed.
Though Dance Soldiah was established in 2000, its focus was promoting live dancehall/reggae events in Paris. Two years ago, Nico Wetzel and company formalised their productions by launching Dance Soldiah Records, with the Sword rhythm being its first official project.
