Tivoli Gardens held leaders Dunbeholden FC 1-1 in the Jamaica Premier League at the Stadium East field on Sunday overcoming a first half deficit to extend their unbeaten run since Glendon Bailey took the reins to six matches.

Leading premier league goal scorer Atapahroy Bygrave had given the leaders the lead in the 40 th minute but his strike was cancelled out by Rodico Wellington in the 77th minute.

Dunbeholden went into the game two points above Waterhouse FC and extended the lead to three points following the draw.

The game got off to a slow start and it was Wellington who got the first shot on target, but his effort went straight to Damion Hyatt in the Dunbeholden goal.

Both teams continued to struggle to create goal scoring opportunities, but Tivoli should have taken the lead when Keno Simpson broke down the right flank and crossed for Stephen Barnett who failed to make contact with the ball which went between his legs.

Dunbeholden made them pay when Bygrave met a Nicoy Christian free kick from the right with a powerful header at the back post which flew past a hapless Kewong Watkins for the striker’s 11 th goal of the season.

Early in the second half Christian picked out Bygrave with a delightful pass close to goal but a poor first touch allowed a defender to clear the danger.

A Shakeen Powell volley brought out the best from Watkins who dived to his right to palm the ball to safety.

At the other end, substitute Rohan Parker fired a shot on target which was held at the near post by Hyatt. Bygrave then thought he had made it 2-0 but was denied by a fingertip save by Watkins.

Another substitute, Warner Brown should have levelled for Tivoli but lacked the necessary composure inside the box and fired high from close range. But Tivoli would secure their point when Wellington held his nerve from 12 yards to send Hyatt the wrong way to lift Tivoli to 22 points as they cling to the last playoff spot.
