KINGSTON, Jamaica — Having spent the last ten years perfecting his craft in hopes of realizing his childhood dream of becoming an international star, Kurrent Music says he feels his “big break” is now within grasp.

“A long time me a do music, more than 10 years now. When I was little, I used to love listening to Michael Jackson songs, used to love dancing and thing. So from me little, I just wanted to be a star. Growing up in the country and then moving to Spanish Town, the music just start come to me,” he said.

The artiste told OBSERVER ONLINE that based on the feedback he has been receiving from his music, specifically his leaked single ‘My Time Soon Come’ in which he describes a life free of poverty, he knows that he will be the artiste that is ‘up next.’

“Whole heap a feedback me a get from the people, them love me music everywhere me go. Some big people in the industry who me never expect fi reach out a call me, so me know my thing a work. Me around Beenie Man and Navino dem, so the dream really close. Me can almost taste it,” Kurrent said.

The 30-year-old reggae artiste, given name Fabian White, said he only wants to bring positivity and “conscious” music to the industry. He added that listeners can also find relatable content as he mainly sings about what is happening in society and in the life of those around him.

“I want to do some corporate music and put out good music. Me don’t want sing what everybody else singing like bout scamming – that will not last. Me want sing about things that people, all the next generation, will come and can listen,” he said.

He added: “Just positive things me want put in the music, nothing negative about me and people in problems and a whole heap of cussing. Don’t want be like the youths dem who come and a say the same thing every minute. Me agree that it a work for them, ye,s but it’s not my thing.”

Though Kurrent wants to bring more positivity, he told OBSERVER ONLINE that he has faced some stumbling blocks in his musical journey. The most recent of which is related to his single ‘My Time Soon Come’. He disclosed that though the song is complete, the producer has not released it.

This, Kurrent said, has also happened in past with other producers.

“My Time Soon Come has not been officially released but me leak it. Is not me that decide when to release it, is a youth who did a produce the song [to decide], and everyday him a say him a release it and me don’t see where it a happen, but me still a do other work with other producers,” Kurrent disclosed.

“Me write song how much years ago and that song never go out yet. All me can hear people say is that it soon drop,” he continued, “Me voice song already for a producer; him send me the riddim, and me go voice the song at a studio, not his, and then send the file go to him and me don’t see him do anything with it until me link him about the song and him tell me that him lose the file.”

When asked why he has continued to pursue music considering the setbacks he has encountered, Kurrent said that he receives encouragement from Chilling Time recording artiste Navino. This, added with the fact that he loves music, keeps him motivated.

“Me always around Navino and me a support his music so him always a give me encouragement same way, so me won’t put down what me know. And me love music,so everyday me still a write music same way, everyday me still a listen riddim and build song. Me can’t put down what me love,” Kurrent said.

The artiste said he also has another song called Meditation that has been released and can be found on YouTube along with his other projects.
