The 1000 Guineas, a native-bred three-year-old Futurity race for fillies only, and the colts and geldings equivalent — the 2000 Guineas — will kick-start the Triple Crown series of races over this weekend at Caymanas Park. Both these Classic races are run over a mile.

Trainers share their views on the possible outcome of the 1000 and the 2000.

Lorne Kirlew: For me, the colts and geldings are up in the air as any number can play, but Atomica is the commanding factor in the fillies section.

Michael Marlowe: Well, the races are going to be exciting and interesting to watch. In the 1000 Guineas, Atomica is going to win. She is unbeaten so far plus, she has already beaten her rivals two times already and she has class and talent. Atomica will be hard to beat. Blue Vinyl, for me, to win the 2000 Guineas. Trainer Patrick Lynch has done wonders with this horse and he is improving at the right time. Based on Blue Vinyl’s win in The Kingston, he is the horse to beat here.

Dale Murphy: Atomica is the 1-9 favourite to win the 1000 Guineas easily and there is no reason why she shouldn’t win. She is a really nice filly, she has done everything to deserve favouritism and it is a matter of who is going to finish second. I like Blue Vinyl to win the 2000 Guineas. He is improving at the right time and how he won the last time suggests that he has come on enough to beat the field.

Ryan Darby: For me, it is Atomica in the 1000 Guineas and Blue Vinyl for the 2000 Guineas. The records are there for Atomica and for Blue Vinyl. He has come on well and should beat them again.

Delroy Waugh: For the 1000 Guineas, I would say that I like Atomica, but for the colts and geldings, I would leave that race and watch it. Atomica has shown that she is the class filly, she can manage the one mile and should score her fifth win from five starts. Good horse!

Gresford Smith: I am going with the morning line favourite in the 1000n – Atomica. I don;t think she can be opposed at this time but it’s racing and anything can happen on the day. I am going with my horse Nomoredeals in the 2000 Guineas. The race is wide open this year and any one of the colts and geldings can win.

Paul Charlton: Atomica is unbeatable in the fillies race. Only a colt can possibly lower her colours, but that is far fetched. The 2000 Guineas is an open race.

Donovan Russell: Atomica is 100% certain of winning the 1000 Guineas for it is not a race. Let’s watch and see how the 2000 Guineas plays out.

Everal Francis: Racing is a funny and uncertain sport, but as long as she enters the race sound and without any hitches, Atomica will not be beaten. Atomica is going to win convincingly. Nothing can be said for the 2000 Guineas, the race is wide open.
