The police in St Thomas have charged three men after an illegal firearm was found in a vehicle in which they were travelling.

They are Extor Beason, 22, unemployed of Red Hills Housing Scheme; Javon Grant, 24, a truck driver from Old Pera and 26-year-old Dilon Howard, a security guard, also from Old Pera, all in St Thomas.

The men are charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. No court date has been finalised as yet, police say.

The men are charged in connection with the seizure of a pistol and several rounds of ammunition during an operation on the Old Pera main road in Port Morant on Sunday.

It is reported that about midday, lawmen in the area signalled the driver of a Toyota motor car with three men aboard to stop. The driver complied, and the men were accosted and searched.

According to the police, a search of the vehicle was also conducted during which a 9mm Kel-Tech pistol with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition was found.

The men were subsequently taken into custody and later charged.
