Farmer charged in two-year shooting with intent case
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — A man, who allegedly opened fire at a group of men who were searching for a cow, has been charged with three counts of shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm in relation to the incident which happened on Bangie Lane, Smithfield, Westmoreland in July 2020.
The accused has been identified as 27-year-old Odane Cooper, a farmer of Wharf Road in the community.
Cooper turned himself in to police at the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station, accompanied by his attorney on June 1, 2022 — almost two years after the incident.
Reports are that about 12:15 pm, three men were searching for a stolen cow when on reaching Bangie Lane, Cooper reportedly opened gunfire at the men who subsequently fled.
A report was made to the police and an investigation launched.
Cooper was charged on June 4.
His court date is being finalised.
