Two arrested in Guyana for multi-million dollar theft of synthetic hair
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – Guyanese police have arrested two persons in connection with the theft of millions of dollars in synthetic hair, braids and weaves.
Reports are that the stolen goods are valued at GUY$5.4 billion or US $23.8 million.
It was allegedly stolen from a local businessman in East Coast Demerara.
The police report that the theft occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning.
Acting on information received, the police said they searched a nearby premises where a quantity of the suspected stolen items was recovered.
Another search was subsequently conducted in the area and the remaining items were found in a building located in the backyard of a businesswoman.
Two persons were arrested and are now in custody – one for breaking and entering and larceny, and the other one for receiving stolen articles.
Investigations are ongoing.
