Flankers, Barracks Road into Under-13 football semis
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Holders Granville Primary were beaten in the semi-finals and Flankers Primary and Barracks Road Primary took the first two places in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association’s Unde-13 competition, as the quarter-finals got underway on Monday at Corinaldi Avenue Primary.
Barracks Road Primary rebounded from their loss in a first-round group game last week to edge Granville Primary 1-0 in a competitive game, while Flankers Primary beat Howard Cooke Primary 2-0 in the other quarter-final game to book their spot in Thursday’s semi-finals.
The other two semi-final places will be decided today when Chetwood Primary faces Catherine Hall in one game while title favourites Corinaldi Avenue Primary and Irwin Primary will meet in the second game.
Corinaldi Avenue were the only team to end the first round with a perfect record, scoring 44 goals in the process, and are yet to concede a goal.
Irwin High were the last team to get into the quarter-finals on Friday, on goal-difference, ahead of Pinnacle Academy after their after their 0-0 draw.
On Monday Ronaldeno Richards’ 12th-minute goal was the difference in a game in which both teams created a number of scoring chances.
A Granville Primary defender had poked the ball out of his area and in the direction of the Barracks Road player who fired it back past the goalkeeper.
Flankers Primary punished a sloppy Howard Cooke team with two goals in the first half.
Oraldo Martin gave Flankers the lead in the 18th minute while an own goal in the 30th minute sealed the deal.
