Athletes to showcase talent at JTA/Sagicor National Athletics Championships
Over 1,200 student-athletes from across all 14 parishes will put their athletic talent on show at the 37th staging of the JTA/Sagicor National Athletic Championships, which kicks off today at the National Stadium.
The meet is being held over two days and will culminate on Saturday when the much-anticipated parish champion will be announced after what is expected to be two intense days of competition.
Children as young as six years old will be putting out their best efforts in various track and field events as they look to rack up points in hopes of walking away from the Championships as winners.
The competition is expected to be fierce as some of the top contenders over the years from the parishes of St Andrew, St Catherine and St Elizabeth are looking to cop the title of Parish Champions. St Andrew are coming to defend their two-year consecutive hold on the trophy, while the other parishes will be looking to stop St Andrew from a three-peat.
The event is free to the public over the two days with the action getting underway at 10:00 am each day. Persons can also download the Roster Athletics Track and Field app to follow the action and see results live and watch via live stream on the Sagicor Foundation Jamaica Facebook page.
Sagicor Foundation is the title sponsor for the Championship with a cash sponsorship of $10 million.
