Dancehall represented for Bounty at Made in Jamroc
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Countless dancehall acts and scores of supporters turned up at the Digicel headquarters car park on Sunday night as dancehall veteran Bounty Killer celebrated his 50th birthday.
Dubbed Made in Jamroc, the event attracted hundreds to downtown Kingston, even amid outbursts of showers. Individuals, who turned up to the venue on time, were sent scampering for cover from the rain which caused a delay in the start.
However, the delay was a mere hiccup as the show turned out to be more than what patrons bargained for. With early curfews being a thing of the past, patrons were treated to performance after performance from some of dancehall’s biggest acts until close to 2:00 am.
The show was split into two sections, with several acts getting to perform individually, while the closing spectacle featured others being on stage together. Voicemail, Chi Ching Ching, Tanya Stephens, Pamputtae, Nesbeth, Shaggy, LaaLee, Teejay, Spice and Dexta Daps, were among the acts who graced the stage to pay tribute to a man dubbed dancehall royalty.
Popcaan, Shane O, Konshens, Harry Toddler, Ghost and General B also turned in brief performances. Even the man of the moment, Bounty, graced the stage, giving screaming fans a vivid reminder of why he has been a dancehall mainstay for more than three decades.
Patrons, who braved the weather and stayed until the curtain call, expressed satisfaction with the show. They shared that although they wanted more of Bounty Killer, who performed just three songs before leaving the stage, they were pleased with the event’s outcome.
“The show was good, but I came to see Bounty and the performance he gave was just too short,” said Annmarie Williams, who added that she journeyed from St Elizabeth for the event.
“Bounty a grung gad and mi did believe him would a give wi more. Mi disappointed in a dat, although mi still did enjoy mi self,” Devon from Arnett Gardens shared.
Made in Jamroc was held courtesy of main sponsors, Digicel. Bounty Killer is an ambassador for the brand.
The event was hosted by fellow brand ambassador, Miss Kitty.
