We have a bishop!
In a ceremony marked by culturally appropriate liturgy and fanfare Bishop-elect Canon Garth Minott was ordained to the episcopal order and consecrated the 7th suffragan of the Kingston region on Saturday.
The faithful of the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands filled Kingston Parish Church in the heart of the city to herald the occasion.
Minott was selected by the Elective Assembly at the 151st synod of the diocese on April 20, 2022 after having served as deputy president and warden of Anglican students at the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTCWI) for a decade.
The service was led by archbishop of the West Indies and Bishop of Jamaica & The Cayman Islands Howard Gregory, chief consecrator. He was supported by Leopold Friday, bishop of the Windward Islands; Michael Maxwell, bishop of Barbados, who delivered the sermon; along with the bishops of the diocese.
The occasion took place on the feast day of St Barnabas, the apostle, and Maxwell encouraged Minott to fashion a ministry responding to need and service, as did Barnabas.
