Glastonbury staff unwind after pandemic lockdown
LIKE everyone else over the last two years, staff members at the south Trelawny-based food distributors, Glastonbury Purveyor Company, experienced extreme frustration at the novel coronavirus pandemic-related lockdowns and containment measures.
So, as soon as the Government’s Disaster Risk Management orders were withdrawn and containment measures relaxed in March, the more than 100-strong staff began planning a fun day.
“In the spirit of keeping fit and getting back to some normalcy we decided to stage our first fun day on May 21,” sales manager at Glastonbury, Neikesha Kozer told the Jamaica Observer.
The fun day — involving merriment for adults and children as well as organised sporting competitions including cricket, football, relays, sprint races, tug of war, egg and spoon and other games — was held at the Kirkvine Sports Complex in Manchester.
At day’s end, members of Team Peco were crowned champions of the sports competition segment and received the Paul Fraser Trophy for their efforts.
Kozer said staff and family members — altogether numbering more than 200 — “thoroughly” enjoyed themselves.
“After so much stress for so long, we were all happy to be able to unwind a little bit and to do something fun and healthy at the same time,” she said.
Glastonbury Purveyor Company distributes a wide range of locally grown and imported foods — including potatoes, onions, legumes, vegetables and meat — to hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and schools islandwide.
