Jamaica reports 92 new COVID cases, 8 deaths
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica reported 92 new cases of COVID-19 and eight fatalities on Tuesday, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
This pushed the total number of cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic to 141,873 and the death toll to 3,106.
Of the newly reported cases, there were 60 females and 32 males with ages ranging from four months to 87 years.
The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (19), St Catherine (15), St Thomas (12), St Mary (eight), Clarendon (eight), Manchester (seven), St James (seven), Westmoreland (five), St Ann (four), Hanover (three), St Elizabeth (three), and Trelawny (one).
Meanwhile, the latest fatalities comprise:
- A 64-year-old woman from Trelawny whose death was recorded in August 2021;
- An 80-year-old man from Trelawny whose death was recorded in August 2021;
- A 54-year-old man from Trelawny whose death was previously reported under investigation in August 2021;
- A 74-year-old woman from Trelawny whose death was recorded in September 2021;
- A 74-year-old woman from Trelawny whose death was recorded in December 2021;
- A 36-year-old man from Trelawny whose death was previously reported under investigation in January 2022;
- A 95-year-old woman from Trelawny whose death was previously reported under investigation in February 2022;
- A 60-year-old woman from Trelanwy whose death was recorded in February 2022; and
- A 78-year-old man from St Elizabeth whose death was recorded in June 2022.
Three more deaths were reported as coincidental.
The country also recorded 129 new recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries to 90,180.
The positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 14 per cent. There are 126 people hospitalised, three of them critically ill.
There are 1,800 confirmed active cases on the island.
