Two people injured in car attack as violence resumes in Spanish Town
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica— Two days after the state of emergency (SOE) ended in St Catherine, the violence has reignited.
On Sunday evening a man and a woman were shot and injured by gunmen in Railway Lane in the Tawes Pen community of Spanish Town.
Information reaching OBSERVER ONLINE is that the two were in a car when the gunmen struck and sprayed the vehicle with bullets.
The incident reportedly occurred about 7:50 pm. Up to a short while ago, the two individuals were still being treated after being admitted to hospital, the police have confirmed.
Infighting between members of the One Order gang resulted in the government declaring an SOE in the parish on June 17. But a court ruling and a lack of support from the parliamentary Opposition forced the government to end it on Friday after only two weeks.
The infighting caused the death of more than seven people over a two-week period before the SOE was declared.
In one incident, four men were shot dead on Railway Lane and in another, three people were killed in the commercial district in the heart of Spanish Town.
