Old Harbour resident feted for her 100th birthday
JULIAN Halstead was in high spirits on Saturday as she was surrounded by family and friends to celebrate her 100th birthday.
Born to Wilhemina and Samual Brown on July 8, 1922 in Bartons, St Catherine, Julian lived in the community for more than 65 years before moving to Church Pen, Old Harbour, where she now lives.
She was married to Walter Halstead, who died 37 years ago, and their union produced 11 children.
She is now a grandmother of 24 and a great- grandmother.
A typical housewife, she did all the duties in the house, including making clothes for the children.
As an avid reader, Julian spent time reading with her children and in her later years her love for reading increased.
She would read every material around her and when she complained that she did not have anything to read one of her grandsons bought her a computer tablet and purchased e-books for her.
She continued reading until a year ago when she started having difficulties with her eyes.
But the problems with her vision were not evident on Saturday as Julian enjoyed the day, sharing memories and enjoying the time with well-wishers.
