Dirt Splurt series begins on Sunday
AS motorsports makes a comeback to the automotive calendar, dexterity discipline is last out the blocks. This will, however, change come Sunday, July 17.
Team Streetz hosts its dexterity series Asphalt Assault:Dirt Splurt at the Tru-Juice Orchards in Bog Walk, St Catherine. Action is set to start at 10:00 am.
“Dexterity fans can expect a new and exciting venue with excellent viewing angles, lots of hot cars and epic driving,” Christopher James of Team Streetz told the Jamaica Observer‘s weekly Auto magazine.
Having staged their last event in March 2020 just before the moratorium on motorsports was imposed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, James said his crew has been building to prepare for their first event back in action.
“This is our first event since the COVID-19 restrictions forced motorsport to close down. During that period we’ve been building by training our team. Once restrictions were relaxed, we started hosting training for our drivers and most recently we’ve been supporting other motorsport events across the island,” said James.
While Team Streetz made its name bringing the wet dexterity format used in Montego Bay to the eastern end of the island, for their Asphalt Assault series, a subset of that was the loose surface-focused Dirt Splurt. These were also held at a venue in Bog Walk.
“We ended up changing the location as Mr McConnell, who owns the property, recently expanded the farm to only find the perfect dexterity site hidden within,” explained James.
With the new venue comes some slight changes to the Dirt Splurt formula.
“Think loose surface Gymkhana complete with four large parking bays for lots of spin action. Box a donut for the lovers of motorsport pastries! The surface, being mainly concrete with a loose dirt overlay is gentler on the cars while providing lots of slip, so epic fun for drivers and spectators,” he said.
