#WorldChamps: Tajay Gayle to miss long jump title defence
EUGENE, Oregon – Reigning world long jump champion, Tajay Gayle, will not have the opportunity to defend his title at this year’s World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Gayle, who won Jamaica’s first gold medal in the event at the 2019 Doha World Championships, suffered an injury to his knee three weeks ahead of the start of the World Championships. He attempted to claim his third national title at the Jamaica trials last month.
As a result of the injury, Gayle was unable to record a legal jump in the qualification round of the event at the World Championships in Eugene.
The final of the men’s long jump is scheduled for tomorrow, July 16 at 8:20pm Jamaica time.
