#World Champs: Jamaican women look to sweep 100m Final
EUGENE, Oregon- Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will look to produce a clean sweep of the final of the women’s 100 metres after dominating the semifinals of the event in Eugene, Oregon.
Thompson-Herah, who is the double Olympic champion, left it late to cross the line in 10.82 seconds to win semi-final two of the event. Thompson-Herah was followed by Marie Josée Ta Lou of Ivory Coast (10.87) and Melissa Jefferson of America (10.92).
Meanwhile, Jackson held her composure in semi-final one to finish ahead of Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain. The Olympic bronze medal winner clocked 10.84 seconds, while Asher-Smith ran 10.89 seconds.
Meanwhile, defending champion Fraser-Pryce, cruised to 10.93 seconds to take the victory in semi-final three. Fraser-Pryce crossed the line ahead of Aleia Hobbs of America (10.95) and Daryll Neita of Great Britain (10.97). However, Kemba Nelson did not advance to the next round after clocking 11.25 seconds for sixth in her respective semi-final.
The final of the women’s 100 metres will be contested later today, July 17 at 9:50pm Jamaica time.
