EUGENE, Oregon — Rasheed Dwyer and Yohan Blake have punched their tickets to the semi-finals of the men’s 200 metres at the Oregon World Championships.

Dwyer, who is a Tokyo Olympic Games finalist in the event, clocked the fastest qualifying time of the Jamaican men in a season’s best of 20.29 seconds. He crossed the line in second behind the defending champion, Noah Lyles of the United States.

Meanwhile, Yohan Blake, whose participation was doubtful due to an alleged sore Achilles tendon in his right foot, clocked 20.35 seconds for fourth in heat five. Blake advanced as a result of a non-automatic qualifying spot.

However, the third Jamaican, Akeem Bloomfield, who has a personal best of 19.81 seconds in the half lap event, was drawn in lane three of heat three. Bloomfield’s competitor’s proved too good as he could only manage fifth place in 20.56 seconds. As a result, Bloomfield will not move on to the next round of the event.

The semi-finals of the men’s 200 metres are scheduled for tomorrow, July 19 at 8:50pm Jamaica time.
