#WorldChamps: Yohan Blake withdrawn from 200m semis
EUGENE, Oregon – Olympic Games and World Championship medallist Yohan Blake has been withdrawn from today’s men’s 200 metre semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon in USA, because of a swollen right foot, the media was told by the team’s management.
An email from the team’s media liaison officer, Dennis Gordon, said Blake, who advanced to the second round on Monday, “is withdrawn from the 200m men’s semi finals due to a swollen right foot. All the protocols were followed. As such, he is eligible for the relays.”
There was uncertainty if Blake, who failed to make it to the final of the men’s 100m on Saturday, would take his place in the first round of the 200m yesterday.
He placed fourth in his heat in 20.35 seconds and advanced along with Rasheed Dwyer, who placed second in his heat, but reported afterwards that he felt cramps during the race.
