Talented American -bred Jordon Reign’s, threw down the gauntlet to others in the higher grade under jockey Dick Cardenas when he won the Thoroughbred Racing Hall-of-Fame Stakes Trophy — a three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance/Graded Stakes feature over 1,200 metres at Caymanas Park, on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

The four-year-old bay gelded son of Mosler out of Dearie Be Good won the six-furlong event by 2 3/4 lengths in a time of 1:12.3 seconds with tracking split fractions of 23.1, 46.4 seconds. Lure of Lucy (Anthony Thomas) was second with Duke (Dane Dawkins) third.

It was a commendable performance from Jordon Reign’s, who was returning from a head victory over Lure of Lucy when they last met, going a tad longer. On Saturday, over a reduced trip, Lure of Lucy looked to have had a chance of reversing the placings coming off a good win recently. However, assistant trainer Peter John Parsard sounded more confident going into this race for a win.

“Jordon Reign’s has had his full share of issues this year, and thankfully we were able to get most of them under control. He has always been a talented horse, so when he is relieved of most of his complaints and problems, we can see how effective he is. For today’s (July 16) outing, we stepped him up quite a bit in his preparation and jumped over Open Allowance to go up to this race and we were so happy that he trained well.

“Still, it had to get done, the race must be run. The jockey did a wonderful job. Following instructions, he did not get him (Jordon Reign’s) into the lead and always had a ton of horse flesh under him to get the job done when called upon to do so. It was a good time and we at the stables are happy with the display.

“We are also happy for the owners. It is an ownership team that is behind him. They have been patient for when he was young, he was very green but over the last four races or so, Jordon Reign’s has picked up and shown that he can respond to what we have asked of him and in his latest win, the minute the jockey asked him a serious question he responded as was expected,” assistant trainer Parsard said.
