Prissie Missie Gets Patriotic

Prissie Missie Gets Patriotic

Saturday, August 6 will mark Jamaica’s 60th year of Independence, and in honour of the celebrations — being observed under the theme ‘Reigniting a Nation for Greatness’ — Tuesday Style Dryer (TSD) is lauding talent from the local creative industry.

We’ve long been fascinated by the innovation of professional make-up artists, particularly those who major in special-effects. The ability to transform faces requires a level of artistry and focus.

Shellene “Prissie Missie” Gregory — a City & Guilds certified MUA — came on our radar at the Carnival GLAMHub at the Jamaica Pegasus on July 10, though she’s been honing her skills since 2016. “I got my City & Guilds certification in 2016, but I have been dabbling in make-up since I was younger. I am a trained visual arts teacher, so I’ve always been creative and into art,” Gregory explained. “I just use make-up as my creative medium now.”

Her work includes gory halloween creations, theatrical make-up and endless black, green and gold eye looks. She admits, though that the market for this type of artistry is limited in Jamaica. In honour of the Jamaica 60 celebration, we’re showcasing a MUA whose talent is sure to impress.
