Sizzla blazes at Dream Weekend

SIZZLA Kalonji fired up the crowd in the wee hours of Sunday morning at Yush, the retro party option, part of the Dream Weeknd series in Negril.

The Nah Apologize singer took the stage minutes after 3:00 am and not even the wet conditions could dampen the blaze that ensued. From COVID-19 to Monkey Pox, nothing was spared from his narrative, and the crowd was in combustion mode as they kept pace with him.

He launched into songs such as Show Us the Way and Good Ways, which were well received, and followed up with thunderous forwards for Holding Firm, Haven’t I Told You, and Woman I Need You. The hits followed up with Thank You Mama, Take Myself Away, Rise to the Occasion, Get to the Point, and Karate.

After declaring the last one, seven songs before, the singer yielded the stage to Code Red Sound to carry out cooling down operations.

Following his performance, Sizzla spoke with the Jamaica Observer on his performance and thoughts on Dream Weekend.

“I’m tremendously honoured, extremely impressed with the people’s presence. This is just to show you that the people love music. They have been supporting us as artistes, so we need to support the people, and if it’s even for 20 to 30 minutes just to be on stage and sing for these beautiful people, it’s a joy. ” Sizzla said.

“A lot of monies being spent, risk taken, planes from distant lands coming to Jamaica, that’s really respectful, and I’m giving my utmost respect to these people for supporting Dream Weekend. When they support Dream Weekend they support all hotels, business persons, the man on the sidewalk pushing his cart, and other entrepreneurs,” Sizzla added.

In addition, Code Red, Black Chiney Sound, and Coppershot were on entertainment duty for Yush, each delivering retro plays across genres, including dancehall, soca, reggae, hip hop, and R&B.
