Bravo struggles for impact as Superchargers lose
LEEDS, England (CMC) — Retired West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo failed to make an impact as his Northern Superchargers went down by seven wickets to Trent Rockets in the Hundred here Tuesday.
Sent in at Headingley, Superchargers could only muster 152 for eight from their 100 deliveries, and Rockets chased down the target with six balls to spare, with Dawid Malan top-scoring 88 not out off 49 balls.
The defeat for Superchargers was their first after winning their opener, while Rockets remained unbeaten in two outings.
Superchargers endured a horrific start when they slumped to 68 for six after 53 deliveries, Bravo the fourth to fall, holing out to Joe Root at backward square off seamer Luke Fletcher (2-22).
With the innings tottering, South Africans David Wiese (50) and Roelof van der Merwe (30) combined in an 83-run, seventh-wicket stand to rescue the innings.
Wiese, who has played for Barbados Tridents, St Lucia Kings, and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League, lashed two fours and five sixes in a 27-ball knock.
In reply, Malan masterminded Rockets’ run chase, smashing 11 fours and three sixes as he posted 86 for the first wicket with Alex Hales (43) before dominating a 52-run third wicket partnership with Colin Munro (15), which sealed Superchargers’ fate.
Bravo was ineffective, taking one for 28 from his 20 deliveries.
