Balenciaga releases US$250 shoelace earrings
Balenciaga, the high-fashion French outlet, has debuted a pair of black shoelaces with white lines – just as you would see on sneakers – tied in a bow and crafted as earrings.
The earrings cost US$250 (35,500 JMD)
The introduction of the earrings has been met with criticism as social media users have blasted the brand for being out of touch with reality.
“Balenciaga is just trying to see what they can get away with…and they win every time,” one Twitter user posted.
Another one tweeted: “If rich kids can’t see that Balenciaga is trolling them by now, I don’t know what more evidence can prove it.”
Wyardie, a popular social media influencer known for his comedic skits, highlighted the absurdity of the earrings. He suggested absurd uses of popular everyday products and provided visual examples of their new ‘uses’.
Wyardie sarcastically offered up his services to the company, stating that they can benefit from his ‘ideas’.
The luxury fashion brand also has a choker design made of the same cord that features a logo-engraved silver plate for US$450.
This is not the first time the company has come under scrutiny.
Earlier this year, Balenciaga launched its infamous “Trash Pouch,” a handbag that Demna, the brand’s creative director, admitted is directly inspired by the garbage bag.
The trash bag retails for US$1,790 (254, 180 JMD)
