DIGITAL scales for children and adults were among very crucial equipment and supplies gifted to the Sunrise Health Clinic on Red Hills Road in St Andrew on Tuesday by the Korea International Cooperation Agency’s (KOICA) Alumni Association, Jamaica chapter.

Senior medical doctor at the facility, Joelle Dietrich, said the scales will come in very handy and will enable them to deliver more efficient patient care. Wheelchairs, infra-red thermometers, a blood pressure machine, a nebuliser, a pulse oximeter, an examination bed, and bassinets were the other items that were donated.

“Personally, I am most excited about the digital scales. We have been using a manual scale and it takes a long time to get the correct reading. The reading is very important for us because, when we are seeing the teenagers and the children, we need an accurate weight to calculate how much antibiotics and different kinds of medication to give. This is going to speed up the process so we can see patients quicker,” she told the Jamaica Observer.

Public health nurse Teisha Taylor-Roach said she was overly grateful for the donations.

“I cannot say enough how grateful we are for these things, especially the scales. This has come in so handy for us. We are now able to better weigh our babies and are better able to say to mothers whether their babies are under or overweight. We are so happy that the KOICA Alumni chose the Sunrise Health Centre for providing all these equipment so that we can effectively offer service to the community.”
