The three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance call for the Kenneth Mattis Memorial Trophy is the feature race on the 10-race card on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Caymanas Park. A small field of six runners is preparing to face the starter going nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).

The analysis of the six is provided below.

1. STORM: (7 b g by Natural Selection – All For Pleasure) – This is Storm’s second race at this level after coming from the claiming ranks. Storm has no realistic chance of winning.

2. AWESOME TREASURE (USA): (5 b m by Awesome of Course – Bossy Gal) – Has been disappointing in her races for quite a while. Awesome Treasure, in this small field, should run her best race yet and can yet complete an exacta for her trainer Gary Subratie, also the conditioner of Calculus.

3. CALCULUS: (4 b c by Sensational Slam – Trinket Box) – Last year’s Jamaica St Leger and Derby winner is the horse to beat. Calculus is the accomplished horse in the line-up and with nothing around of his calibre, should easily brush aside rivals. Calculus, who is down in class, can either lead these or come from behind, whichever he chooses, he should be an easy winner.

4. MARQUESAS: (7 b h by Coded Warning – Islamorada) – Hobbling around in this grade for a while without any clear indication that he can make it to the winners’ enclosure. Marquesas is suited by the distance of two turns and in this weak field, with the exception of Calculus, has the hope of earning.

5. SIR JOHN: (4 b g by Natural Selection – Luscious) – Sir John is going to be left behind.

6. CHINAMAX (USA): (6 ch h by Itsmyluckyday – Aweemaway) – Capable runner who shows up with surprising runs every now and then. In this small field, Chinamax can definitely hit the board.
