Dalton Harris, Digicel Rising Star and X Factor winner, will be playing the lead role of Jack in Shone Productions’s adaptation of Jack And The Beanstalk slated for King George’s Hall in Blackburn, London, come December 5 to 31.

Harris made the revelation via a Facebook post.

“Grew up watching this movie and saw so many amazing actors play this role on Broadway and across so many stages, so to be stepping into this role is a big deal for me and another personal goal achieved,” he wrote.

The singer said that this is a “first-time accomplishment” for Jamaicans, and lauded his mother for her continued support.

“Look at God. This is a win for all of my supporters. When I win you win. Jamaica wins as well. First Jamaican playing the role as well. So big up you Jamaica. Keep praying Mom. You’re prayers been working. Even when we lose,” he said.

In addition to Harris, Jack and The Beanstalk’s other cast members include Tom Robert, Charlie Guest, Mark Slowey, Chloe Carrington and Emily Roylance.

The children’s story of Jack and The Beanstalk sees Jack, a poor country boy, who trades the family cow for a handful of magic beans, which grow into an enormous beanstalk reaching up into the clouds. Jack climbs the beanstalk and finds himself in the castle of an unfriendly giant.

This is Harris’s second theatre stint. Last August, he starred in the Closer Than Ever Broadway Musical.

Closer Than Ever aimed to signal the resurgence of the UK’s theatre scene which was gravely impacted by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

In 2010, Harris became the youngest winner of talent competition Digicel Rising Stars. For his efforts, he was awarded a cash prize of $1.5 million.

Eight years later he entered X Factor in the United Kingdom and won. In addition to a cash prize, he landed a record deal with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Music.

Harris’s recordings The Power of Love, Girl Like You, and Cry all peaked in the top 10 of iTunes charts.
