Clarification needed
Dear Editor,
I saw a statement on Televeision Jamaica (TVJ) on Tuesday, September 13 which read, ‘Jamaicans asked to eat more exotic crops’. I wonder, however, what was the truly intended message?
The Oxford Dictionary of English defines exotic as something foreign or unusual; therefore, that statement would be contradictory to the Agriculture Ministry’s slogan, which suggests that we “eat what we grow and grow what we eat”.
Jamaica produces several crops which may be considered exotic to foreigners but certainly not to Jamaicans. The statement, therefore, needs much clarification and should be re-examined.
