A man who attended a daCosta Cup football match at the Alphansus Davis High School in Spalding, Clarendon on Saturday was later arrested after he was held with an illegal firearm.

The man, who was among several bike riders at the match, was arrested after he left the venue and was accosted by police in the town.

The match was between Alphansus Davis (formerly Spalding High) and Holmwood Technical.

It was reported that about 5:50 pm, the police were on patrol in the town when a group of men was seen driving motorcycles without protective helmets.

The police went in the direction of the men with a view of accosting them. One man drove into an alley near the traffic light. The police immediately went into the alley and accosted him.

A bulge was seen in his mid-section, and, during a search, a firearm was removed from his waistband. The gun, a 9mm pistol, was seized and the man taken into police custody.

Police later identified the man as one of a group of bike riders who were seen at the match earlier.

On Sunday, three people were shot dead and six others injured during a gun attack at a football match in Spring Village, St Catherine. Among the deceased were a woman and two men.
