ST JAMES, Jamaica — The St James Municipal Corporation says the nomination for the 2022 Sam Sharpe Awards is now open.

The Sam Sharpe Awards seeks to recognise and highlight individuals within the parish for their outstanding contribution to the economic, social, educational, cultural or political development of St James. The awards are also open to people from the parish residing abroad.

“Members of the public are encouraged to submit their applications along with an up-to-date biographical note or resume by October 3, 2022 in order for nominees to be considered,” the St James Municipal Corporation said.

“Additionally, only Jamaicans are eligible, no self-nomination and no previous National Honours and Awards recipients will be accepted,” the Corporation added.

Winners of the awards will be presented with a commemorative plaque at the upcoming Heroes Day Civic Ceremony on Monday, October 17, 2022 in Sam Sharpe Square.

Nomination forms can be accessed at the St James Municipal Corporation building on Union Street in Montego Bay, or from the Social Development Commission (SDC) parish office in Albion and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission parish office, now located at 8 Kerr Crescent, Montego Bay.

Forms can also be downloaded from the resources page of the Municipal Corporation’s website: http://stjamesmc.gov.jm.

All completed application forms must be returned to the Public & Community Relations Unit of the St James Parish Council.
