KC cut apart Calabar at Red Hills Road to make it four from four in the Manning Cup
Champions Kingston College (KC) showed that their comfortable opening day win at Sabina Park over Calabar High in the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup was no fluke, when they went to 61 Red Hills Road and inflicted yet another telling victory over their rivals today.
Dujuan Richards, the Calabar destroyer on day one, when he bagged a brace in the 5-1 win, was even more deadly today as he scored all three goals, his first hattrick of the campaign, in the 3-0 win. It was the fourth victory in a row for KC.
Calabar would have been hoping that home comforts would have seen them achieve a better result against KC this time around but that was not to be against a KC team intent on not giving anything away.
After an even start to the game by both teams, Richards took the match into his hands when he opened the scoring in the 20th minute with his trademark goal. He received the ball on the right side of the box, cut inside his marker and then unleashed a powerful left foot shot into the far corner of the net.
His second goal came in the 33rd minute when he out-hustled the last Calabar defender and then slotted home beyond the advancing Ramiesh McKoy.
With a comfortable 2-0 at the half-time break it was just about how many more goals the ‘Famed Purples’ would be able to muster.
Just four minutes after the restart, Richards scored a magnificent goal, a thunderous strike from distance that lodged in the roof of the net. It is a goal that will be in the early running for the goal of the season. He has now taken his tally of goals to eight from four games and is proving to be one of the most lethal strikers in the Manning Cup.
It didn’t take very long after for KC head coach Raymond Watson to begin ringing the changes, including Richards who earned an early rest after his sparkling performance.
In the other Zone A matches, Waterford High who are second in the zone showed that they are determined to at least hang on to that spot when they thrashed Meadowbrook 5-0 at Winchester Park, while St. George’s College (STGC) remained in touch with the top two when they beat Ardenne High 3-0 on their own home patch.
At the end of four matches for each team in the zone, KC lead with 12 points, Waterford are second on10, STGC are third on 9, Calabar are fourth with 4 points while Ardenne and Meadowbrook are still to get off the mark.
