A FEMALE AFFAIR

A FEMALE AFFAIR

THREE years ago, dancehall artiste Lisa Mercedez opened for Nicki Minaj on the rapper’s tour of the United Kingdom.

She said she was floored recently when Nicki Minaj reached out to her via Instagram to participate in a new remix of Skeng’s Likkle Miss.

The remix was released on Wednesday.

The song — titled The Fine Nine remix — also features dancehall artistes Pamputtae, Dovey Magnum, Spice, soca artistes Patrice Roberts and Destra Garcia, British rapper Lady Leshurr, who is of Kittitian heritage, and Bronx rapper London Hill.

“Nicki messaged me and asked me to do a verse. Right now, I am just ecstatic. It’s a historic and powerful remix,” Lisa Mercedez disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Thursday.

She added, “This remix for me, brings love and unity, plus it also sheds a good light on us female artistes and it defo proves to the naysayers that we can actually come together as one and create something memorable as this.”

Lisa Mercedez — who resides in Greater London — is originally from Red Hills in St Andrew. She sees the collaboration as an opportunity to get her career moving in the right direction.

“I’ve been so busy since the collaboration was released. I have also been doing interviews and taking it all in stride,” she shared.

Lisa Mercedez has been pursuing music since 2014 when she released her debut single Let’s Get Drunk. She has since collaborated with the likes of Stefflon Don, Vybz Kartel, Stylo G, and Red Light.

She recently collaborated with 1990s international dancehall artiste Patra.

“I just did a collaboration with Patra. She was the one who motivated me to do music when I was younger. I reached out to her and she gave me a verse on my song, which was produced by Jon FX. I also did a song with Daddy1,” Lisa stated.

She continued, “I work mostly with producers in London and America, but recently I’ve been linking up with Jamaican producers like Damage Musiq, TJ Records and JonFX.”

Born Alicia Lawrence, Lisa Mercedez was attending Hydel High when her father passed away. It was then that she relocated to the United Kingdom to reside with family members. Her mother, whom she didn’t have a close relationship with, still resides in Jamaica.

To date, the deejay has released a mixtape titled BGC (2017) and an EP titled Drama Free which features collaborations with Nadia Rose, Culan, Ninja Man and I Am Aisha.
