Social media and Elaine’s ‘baby bump’
The recent social media frenzy over speedster Elaine Thompson-Herah’s alleged baby bump is just a further sign that Jamaicans have bought hook, line and sinker into the world of social media. Time was when a woman’s pregnancy was such a private thing. Still, asking for a friend, is it true that Elaine is baking?
Sporting women and their period
Also on the sporting front, it is clear that my Jamaican sisters have adopted the openness of their overseas counterparts in discussing the impact of period (or menses) on female performance. It’s a useful discussion to have. That way, if anything can be done to make life easer for women athletes the international federations can factor it in. Truth is, women have had to overcome so much to be able to make progress. It’s not so long ago that certain feminine health-care products, like sanitary pads, couldn’t be advertised on TV.
Polygraph test for every one at Central Police, please
The news that St Catherine’s most wanted man, Rudolph “Boxer” Shaw, has escaped the custody of the Kingston Central Police lock-up is shocking. After all that effort to get him from Cayman. When you see the lawyer of this alleged multiple-murderer dissociating himself, you know things are bad. Every officer and civilian staff of the station must be polygraphed, Mr Commissioner Anderson.
