Trinidad Community Flies The Red, White & Black In Celebration Of Independence & Republic Day

Trinis know how to throw a party, and that was very evident when High Commissioner of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to Jamaica Deryck Murray and his wife Maureen welcomed nationals and guests to the high commission in Kingston on September 28, 2022 in celebration of the twin-island’s 60th anniversary of Independence and 46th anniversary of the attainment of republic status.

With the red, white and black flying proudly, the steelpan notes of the RSI steel orchestra alternating with soca selections from the DJ, the dulcet notes of Trini Velia Espeut singing both national anthems, plus the décor featuring a series of white tents with red, white and black borders, one was transported “down south”.

The support of several local companies, including Seprod, Caribbean Airlines, Confectionery and Snacks, GraceKennedy, and Berger Paints, was clear evidence of the “cooperation and collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica” referenced by High Commissioner Murray and Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Jamaica’s minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade, in their respective remarks.

In attendance were members of the diplomatic community, Government, Opposition and Trinidad & Tobago nationals resident in Jamaica. All enjoyed Trinidad and Jamaica cuisine, including, roti, pholourie, corn soup, pineapple chow, and doubles catered by Trini chefs at Cutting Edge Gourmet, Zanifa Khan, Super Spicy Doubles and Jamaican, JD’s Urban Pub.
