Women urged to withhold intimacy from meat-eating men
“WE all know them — the men with beer bottles in hand, brandishing tongs while cooking sausages on their expensive grills. These barbecue masters believe that they can prove their masculinity to themselves and their fellow humans through their consumption of meat, not only hurting animals but also harming the planet.”
The science speaks for itself, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said in a news release late last month: “A study published in the journal PLOS ONE found that men contribute significantly more to the climate catastrophe than women, primarily through their meat consumption. Their eating habits result in 41 per cent more greenhouse gases.”
As such, PETA is proposing a strike on sex with meat-eating men to persuade them to go vegan.
“Men need to take accountability for their actions. Now that research shows that their impact on the climate is so disproportionately large, they should take steps to rectify that. And the easiest, healthiest, simplest way to do this is by going vegan,” PETA said.
Will Jamaican women hop on to this action to do their bit for Mother Earth?
Twila, 34:
My partner gave up meat for Lent earlier this year, so I do believe I can convince him to do this for this cause. Meat is not a big part of our diet anyway, so this would be nice to implement at home.
Sadie, 40:
I could use this at home, yes, but this means regular meat, right, not the other kind of eating? I will suggest it to my partner and see how he reacts. I’m willing to do what it takes to save the planet.
Tonya, 27:
Yes, women should really take charge and strike for actions like these. I wish there were more causes that we could strike for!
Amanda, 32:
If I do any kind of strike like this, I’m sure my man will just go out to eat elsewhere, literally and figuratively. Maybe we can just start by offering fewer meat options at home, instead of the whole dramatic strike thing.
Nordia, 25:
Yes! I’m all for this! Anything that’s needed to do what I can for the environment is good. But my boyfriend is also very conscious about our carbon footprint, so I’m sure cutting out meat, based on the research, should not be difficult for him.
