Da’Ville dedicates it ‘To Jireh’
When he got baptised one year ago, Da’Ville discovered renewed focus in his personal and professional life. He celebrates that revival with To Jireh, his latest song which was released in September.
After over two decades of recording secular music, the singer got saved in July 2021. While he continues to record songs that suit a ‘world’ audience, his plans include more tracks like To Jireh which he wrote and produced for his Global Merchant Music company.
“I’d say it is very personal to me because it reflects my personal experiences. Ever since I got saved, I felt that a part of my calling is for me to give my testimony as it relates to my journey and transformation with my decision to walk in closer relationship with Jesus, my Lord and Saviour. So to me, To Jireh is a way of giving a part of my testimony in regards to what Christ has done for me throughout my life,” Da’Ville explained. “It is my hope that it will serve as a catalyst of inspiration to people in general to have some of their own experiences and testimonies conveyed when they hear, listen, and participate with this song.”
To Jireh is the follow-up to Everytime it Rains, his reggae interpretation of the hit single by Swedish group, Ace Of Base. That song was preceded by the upbeat Happy.
For most of his career as a solo act and with the group ARP, Da’Ville’s sound was based around lovers rock songs. His individual breakthrough came in 2006 with Always on my Mind, one of the biggest songs that year in Jamaica.
An album of the same name followed as well as other ballads, but even then Da’Ville said he was soul-searching. Last year, he made the big decision to get saved.
“Well, I’ve always been spiritual; but as it pertains to my walk with Christ and becoming more obedient to his ways, I think within the last two years I’ve been making a significant effort to be more intentional with my spiritual walk, especially through what I choose to listen to, talk or sing about, and pay attention to,” he said. “This walk is not easy and it’s probably the most difficult thing for me to do, especially with the lifestyle I used to live prior to fully committing to follow and serve Jesus Christ.”
Breath, Da’Ville’s seventh album, is scheduled for release in 2023.
