DRAX HALL, St Ann — A resurgent Cornwall College scored a come-from-behind upset 2-1 win over red-hot and previously unbeaten Dinthill Technical at Drax Hall on Saturday as the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association/Digicel daCosta Cup round of 16 got underway with eight games.

Cornwall College went into the game as ranked underdogs against a Dinthill Technical team that had won their previous 12 matches this season and is seen as one of the title contenders after just falling short last season.

Two other schools — St Elizabeth Technical High and York Castle — also lost their unbeaten status, while William Knibb Memorial extended their run of games without conceding a goal to 11 straight.

Former champions Clarendon College, Glenmuir High and Frome Technical, however, extended their good runs with wins.

The upset of the day came at Drax Hall, however, where after going behind in the 28th minute, Cornwall College struck back two minutes later when Braxton Richards pulled them level.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Cornwall College were awarded a penalty four minutes into time added at the end of the second half and Deshaun Talbert stepped up to and dispatched the spot kick to give his team arguably their biggest win of the season.

Kaheim Dixon scored a brace, while Malachi Douglas Devonti Hodges and Christopher Hull got one goal each as Clarendon College ran rough shod over Rusea’s High in a repeat of the 2017 final, played at Foga Road.

Clarendon College led 3-0 at half-time and took the lead in group three over Frome Technical who ended York Castle’s unbeaten run at Llandilo Sports Complex in Westmoreland.

Dwayne Watt gave Frome Technical the lead in the 24th minute before Javel Clarke converted a penalty in the 83rd to secure all three points as Frome have won their last five games without conceding a goal.

Glenmuir High sent a big message with their 2-0 win over STETHS at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex in Santa Cruz and are tied for the lead in group four with Manning’s Schools who also beat Edwin Allen High 2-0 at Llandilo.

Jhamaleek Porter gave Manning’s School the lead in the 34th minute when he was perfectly placed to poke home the ball after Edwin Allen’s goalkeeper Lamar Williams spilled the ball when he got the ground.

Javin Williams made the points secure when he doubled the advantage in the 75th minute.

Mark Lewis scored the only goal of the game as William Knibb got past Paul Bogle High in their game at Drax Hall as the Trelawny school won back-to-back games by the lone goal.

Defending champions Garvey Maceo High had their nine-game winning run cut when they were held 0-0 by Christiana High and have failed to win just two of their last 24 games in the competition dating back to last season.
