Sevana pleads guilty

SEVANA pleaded guilty to the charge of death by dangerous driving in the Westmoreland Circuit Court on Monday.

The 30-year-old singer, who is currently out on a $400,000 bail bond, is scheduled to be sentenced on November 17. She faces a maximum of five years’ prison time.

According to a police report, Sevana was travelling along the Scott Cove main road in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, when the Honda City motor car she was driving slammed into a Honda Fit travelling in the opposite direction. Ordia Cordiel, a passenger in the Honda Fit, sustained injuries and was admitted to the Black River Hospital in St Elizabeth. She succumbed to her injuries on May 30, 2021. The reggae singer was subsequently charged by the police.

The police report also stated that Sevana’s licence was issued on May 17, one week before the accident.

Sevana, who hails from Westmoreland, was first introduced to the general public as a member of girl group SLR, which entered Digicel Rising Stars in 2008. The group placed third in the competition.

She resurfaced as solo act in 2014 and subsequently became part of Protégé’s In.Digg.Nation Collective.

She is known for songs including Mango, If You Only Knew, and Man Down. She got a major career boost when Mango was licensed for use in the soundtrack for TV show Big Sky, which airs on ABC.
