Garvey Maceo’s D’Cup title defense in danger

CLARENDON, Jamaica — Defending ISSA daCosta Cup champions, Garvey Maceo High School, are on the verge of being eliminated from the competition after they were beaten 1-0 by Central High School in their Round of 16 Group 1 game played at Foga Road High on Tuesday, November 1.

Garvey Maceo were unbeaten in the competition since 2019, and after winning all 13 games on their way to taking the title, were on a 24-game unbeaten run until they got ambushed on Tuesday.

James Gallimore’s second half goal was enough for them to beat Garvey Maceo and take over the lead in Group 1 on four points, the same as Manchester High who beat Christiana High 2-1 in Mandeville.

After scoring 44 goals in 11 games between the first and second rounds, Garvey Maceo have failed to score in two games in the round of 16.

Manchester High moved to joint lead after beating Christiana High at Manchester High with Jamar Brown scoring both goals for the winners.

William Knibb Memorial took control of Group 2 after a 1-0 win over Cornwall College at Drax Hall and improved to six points, three more than Dinthill Technical who beat Paul Bogle High 2-0 at York Oval, and Cornwall College.

Mark Lewis got the only goal in the game at Drax Hall, scoring in the 11th minute as William Knibb Memorial won their third game by a lone goal and Cornwall College lost their sixth game of the season, all by a one goal margin.

Dinthill Technical rebounded from their loss to Cornwall College on Saturday to beat Paul Bogle High, taking the lead in the first half from an own goal before Shamir Hutchinson added a second in the second half to secure the win and get them back into contention.

Tuesday’s Results

Manchester 2, Christiana 1

William Knibb 1, Cornwall 0

Paul Bogle High 0, Dinthill 2

Central 1, Garvey Maceo 0
