Former Hydel High sprint hurdler Kerrica Hill has been nominated for the 2022 World Athletics Female Rising Star of the Year Award, according to the sport’s governing body.

Hill’s nomination comes on the heels of her sensational performance at this year’s staging of the World Athletics U20 World Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Not only did she win gold in the women’s 100m hurdles, but Hill stormed to a World U-18 record, Championship record and a personal best time of 12.77 seconds to claim the top spot.

In addition, she was a member of the gold medal-winning and record-breaking 4x100m quartet, which included Serena Cole, Tina and Tia Clayton. They claimed gold in a new U-20 record of 42.59 seconds.

She also won the Class Two Girls 100m hurdles in a record of 11.16 seconds at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships in April.

The last time a Jamaican was nominated for the award was in 2019 after Britany Anderson clocked a time of 12.71 seconds to break the U-20 world record in the women’s 100m hurdles.
