Content Gardens, St Ann, shooting sends residents scrambling for cover
ST ANN, Jamaica — A man who thought it was safer living away from Kingston was among residents of Content Gardens in St Ann sent scrambling for cover after armed men shot a delivery man about 1:00 pm on Wednesday.
The wounded man has been hospitalised. His name has not been released.
“Bwoy a first me a see a delivery man a get shot. It gwaan bout couple steps from which part me did deh. A lucky me lucky make me still deh yah. A behind wah tree me did affi run go,” said the man who only identified himself as “Highly”.
“A town me come from, so me think say coming to country woulda make me see less shootings. But is like everywhere you go trouble follow you,” he noted.
Another man, who said he heard the gunshots, described the shooting as tragic and said he hopes the wounded man will recover.
“A me lunch me just did a go eat and me hear couple gunshot… by the time me go look me hear people a say them just shot a delivery man,” he said.
Police reports are that the man was in the Content Gardens area on a motorcycle when men drove up in a vehicle and opened gunfire, hitting him.
The vehicle with the men then sped away from the scene.
Residents alerted the police who rushed the wounded man to the St Ann’s Bay Regional Hospital for treatment.
A motive has not yet been ascertained for the shooting.
