DRAX HALL, St Ann — Dinthill Technical, William Knibb Memorial and Central High booked their spots in the quarter-finals of the ISSA/Digicel daCosta Cup football competition on Friday after a dramatic day in the round of 16.

Two-time champions Dinthill Technical ended William Knibb’s 12-game unbeaten run, beating them 3-0 at Drax Hall as the losers conceded for the first time all year, but both teams advanced from Group Two after Cornwall College gave up a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Paul Bogle High at home.

Dinthill Technical and William Knibb are both on six points, two more than Cornwall College.

Central High drew 1-1 in their game against Christiana High, moving to five points, and booked their spot from Group One as the other game between defending champions Garvey Maceo and Manchester High was not played because of poor weather in May Pen.

The game has been rescheduled for today at the Wembley Centre of Excellence, starting at 3:00 pm.

After losing their first game of the round, Dinthill Technical roared back with consecutive wins, and after dismissing Paul Bogle High 2-0 on Tuesday, ended William Knibb Memorial’s unbeaten run.

Kimani Small opened the scoring in the 15th minute, the first goal conceded by William Knibb in 1,095 minutes as they had gone the previous 12 games without letting in a goal.

Giovannie Afflick added a second late in the first half and Daniel Roberts killed off any hopes of a comeback when he scored in the second half.

Dinthill Technical won the group on goal-difference as they had four goals to William Knibb’s negative one.

Cornwall College had their fate in their hands and led 2-0 after 23 minutes, but dropped their guard and gave up two goals in a nine-minute span.

Braxton Richards scored from headers in the 17th and 23rd minutes and the 12-time champions were well in control of the game and seemingly well on their way back to the quarter-finals.

Tajhean Mayne pulled one back for Paul Bogle High in the 31st minute when he was allowed time one the right-hand side of the Cornwall College 18 yards box and fired high into the top right hand corner.

Jaydon James pulled them level in the 40th minute when he dribbled down the left side, cut inside and his shot from just outside the 18 yards looped into the far corner of the goal.
