Building a culture of responsibility
ASHTON-SMITH... it is essential to shine some light on how critical it is to consume safely during this period.

Building a culture of responsibility

Red Stripe has partnered with the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica once again to curate a dynamic line-up of public and private sector stakeholders covering transportation, law enforcement, and entertainment for the ‘RESPONSIBILITY NOW! Townhall to explore the issue of Responsible Alcohol Consumption and Road Safety.

The event, which will take place on November 9, 2022, is the second in a series of town halls to raise awareness around responsible consumption ahead of traditionally high consumption periods.

Led by the Ministry of Transport and Mining, the event’s panel will include the head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Public Safety & Traffic Enforcement Branch, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie; director of the Island Traffic Authority, Kenute Hare; Dream Entertainment Director, PJ Wright; and vice-president of the Jamaica Association of Transport Owners & Operators (JATOO), Everton Style.

‘Responsibility Now!’ is the latest in a series of knowledge-sharing events initiated by Red Stripe and the D&G Foundation since 2018. The objective is to encourage dialogue and action around responsible alcohol consumption and drive home the essential role mindful consumption plays in road safety.

“We’re approaching the first Christmas since the pandemic where the entertainment sector is fully open, and we expect many people to be on the road attending events and family gatherings. Alcohol consumption, through food and drinks, is a key part of the Jamaican Christmas experience. We, therefore, feel it is essential to shine some light on how critical it is to consume safely during this period,” said Dianne Ashton-Smith, head of corporate affairs at Red Stripe.

“We have gathered an excellent panel that spans a cross-section of key stakeholders who can provide key insights and generate a robust discussion on promoting a ‘whole-of-society’ approach to the issue. The goal is to reach as wide an audience as possible to spark a national conversation as we work to build a culture of moderation this festive season and beyond,” she continued.

LYEW-AYEE… the conversation about moderate consumption and its intersection with road safety is of national importance.

Confirmed speaker and PSOJ vice-president Dr Parris, Lyew-Ayee noted, “The PSOJ continues to support and commend Red Stripe on the Responsibility Now initiative and its ongoing efforts to promote responsible alcohol consumption. People from all backgrounds consume alcohol, so the conversation about moderate consumption and its intersection with road safety is of national importance. Forums like this, where stakeholders who may have never met can discuss and exchange ideas, is the joint approach needed if we are serious about a cultural change.”

‘RESPONSIBILITY NOW!’ Responsible Alcohol Consumption and Road Safety will stream live on Red Stripe’s corporate LinkedIn and YouTube accounts @RedStripeCorporate. The town hall will also stream live via event moderator Debbie Bissoon’s Instagram account @debbiebissoon.
