TWENTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD Shanique Singh was on Sunday chosen as the winner of the Miss Jamaica World Beach Beauty Fast Track competition.

Singh, along with 12 other finalists in the 2022 pageant, competed for an automatic spot in the top 10, ahead of the grand coronation which is scheduled for December 4 at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.

Singh, who finished third in the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant during the summer, said this was her second attempt at the Miss Jamaica World title.

“Well, I actually entered before in 2016. I have grown a lot and just wanted to show Jamaica that I am capable of doing more. I saw the applications were open for Miss Jamaica World and I just decided to go for it because this may be the last year that I could do it,” Singh told the Jamaica Observer shortly after she was announced winner.

The Miss Jamaica World Beach Beauty Fast Track event took place at the newly refurbished Fort Clarence Beach in Portmore, St Catherine, on Sunday.

Singh, who is sponsored by Howard Johnson Reality, shared what she believed gave her the edge over the 12 other competitors.

“I believe it was the confidence and having fun on a whole on the beach, and that’s what I delivered,” said Singh.

Singh shared preparation plans for the grand coronation.

“I think I am prepared enough, but there’s always room for improvement and not to be complacent,” she said.

Hailing from Old Harbour in St Catherine, Singh is a student at The University of the West Indies where she is studying medicine and surgery.

Lineisha Davis (Miss RE-TV) finished in second place in the Beach Beauty Fast Track event, while Tashwania Buchanan and Garisha Grant tied for third place.

Said David, “Second place is really amazing. It’s a tough competition and I am really happy. Being in this pageant is amazing and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

The 25-year-old is from Westmoreland. She is pursuing studies in dental hygiene at the University of Technology, Jamaica.

Nineteen-year-old Buchanan, a BPO account manager who holds an Associate Degree in Business Management from the University College of the Caribbean (UCC), says this is her fifth pageant.

“When I heard my name called for third place, I was like, what? I was surprised. I always wanted to enter Miss Jamaica World so I decided to utilise the opportunity,” said Buchanan.

Buchanan is from the Bay Farm Road area in Kingston. She is sponsored by Interlinc.

Grant, who is sponsored by Courtleigh Hotel, is a model and nursing student at the Distinction College.

“I feel so happy and proud of myself. My reason for entering this pageant is to show others that no matter what, you can do it,” said Grant, who is from Portmore.

The other Miss Jamaica World Fast Track competitions are Fitness Challenge (November 19 at Emancipation Park in New Kingston), Talent (November 24) and Top Model (November 27).
