Laing creates buzz about Sting
ISAIAH Laing, principal of Supreme Promotions, organisers of Sting, promises patrons a memorable and incident-free experience when the show returns at Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in Priory, St Ann, after a seven-year absence.
He spoke with the Jamaica Observer at the event’s media launch at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston on Tuesday evening.
“Now is the opportune time for Sting’s rebirth and nothing beats time,” he told the Jamaica Observer. “It has been seven years since it was last held… We have had so many obstacles in the way of Sting, over the years; but nothing will stop this show. I’m a firm believer in God and we put him first,” Laing said.
According to the Sting boss, this year’s line-up includes a mix of up-and-coming and seasoned acts.
“In addition to the fast-rising acts, we have some seasoned veterans in the midst. We have Christopher Martin, Shane O, Shaneil Muir, Jesse Royal, and Etana. There’s also Pamputtae, Jada Kingdom, and Dovey Magnum in another segment. It will be an entertaining show,” he vowed.
“We are giving the young artistes a stage for themselves. Remember COVID stopped them and everybody stayed home and they were preparing their lyrics and sending out on social media; So, we’re giving them a stage to expose them to the world… We won’t have any incidents. I guarantee that. We have been talking to the artistes and they are listening. They don’t want to spoil the first one and this platform will lead them into some major opportunities globally,” he continued.
The evening saw the Orville Hall-led outfit Dance Xpressionz in performance, as well as rising act Valiant.
First staged in 1984, Sting has been held at Cinema II in New Kingston, the National Stadium in St Andrew, and JamWorld Entertainment Complex in St Catherine. Hip hop heavyweights such as Biggie Smalls, Kris Kross, Busta Rhymes and DMX have all appeared on the show which drew monster crowds in its heyday.
The famous Sting clashes include Super Cat and Ninja Man in 1990; Merciless vs Ninja Man, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man in 2000; and, Vybz Kartel vs Ninja Man in 2003.
