Sagicor kicks off mentorship programme with Wolmer’s Boys’
Through its SagicorLEAD initiative, Sagicor Group Jamaica has launched a mentorship progamme in partnership with Wolmer’s Boys’ School titled ‘The I-Care Programme’.
“Sagicor decided to partner with Wolmer’s Boys’ School to provide mentorship through the I-Care Programme because, as one of the largest financial groups within Jamaica, we have witnessed first-hand the difficulty faced by students as they make their transition from high school to college and the world of work,” shared Michelle Higgins, manager, relationship management and people development at Sagicor Group.
“This programme will assist these impressionable young men in creating a road map for success,” she continued.
The programme will cater to the professional and personal development of sixth form students with focus on career management, personal branding, problem solving, and communication.
To achieve these objectives students will be mentored by the Sagicor team members, who are a part of SagicorLEAD Leadership Development Programme which was designed to develop future leaders within the organisation.
Wolmer’s Boys’ School is the second oldest high school in the Caribbean.
Dageon Whiteley, president of the Wolmer’s Boys’ School Parent Teacher Association, shared: “Our PTA welcomes the Sagicor mentorship programme as it will be another way for our Wolmerians to discover new facets of themselves. We look forward to the mentors showing our gentlemen skills and capacities they never knew they had.”
Shanakay Dyer, SagicorLEAD member and payments associate at Sagicor Bank, highlighted that being a part of I-Care is a chance for her to not only mentor the younger generation, but to also be a better leader.
“I’ve always been passionate about mentorship as I’ve had a few mentors along my journey. These individuals have been instrumental in my growth, and I aim to be that for the young men I’ll be mentoring as well,” she said.
