Brazil for the win, says Chris Martin
While attending St Jago High School in Spanish Town, singer Christopher Martin represented that institution at football, from Under-13 to Manning Cup.
“Football is one of my favourite sports. I played mostly left wing, attacking midfield and forward. Not only did I play for St Jago High, but I also played for the parish of St Catherine,” the Big Deal singer shared in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
Martin is an avid football fan and believes that Brazil — which won the trophy in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002 — will be triumphant in this year’s World Cup.
“Brazil will win the World Cup this year because they are the number one team in the world an’ di most consistent team right now. A di biggest side right now an’ they have di most impressive players an’ all-round best team, from defence to forward,” Martin stated.
Brazil plays in group alongside Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.
Asked which players he felt would do well in the tournament, Martin pointed to striker Neymar, a prolific goalscorer and arguably the best player in the world.
“Neymar will definitely do well. It was very unfortunate how his last World Cup ended, so I know he’s coming back willing to make amends for that, even though he got injured by a very nasty play,” said Martin.
He continued, “I want Raheem Sterling to have another great World Cup as well, Cristiano [Ronaldo], I want him to have a good World Cup, Messi as well. Yuh have some young players on the German team, Jamal Musiala [midfielder] will have a good one as well.”
Sterling, who was born in Jamaica, represents England, while Cristiano Ronaldo, who represents Portugal, is Martin’s favourite player.
Martin is known for songs such as Take My Love, Cheaters Prayer and his latest hit, Guaranteed.
